Urban Legal Recruitment is pleased to partner with our esteemed client, a highly regarded national law firm, in the recruitment of an experienced Commercial Real Estate Paralegal to join their exceptional legal team in Calgary.

This is an excellent opportunity for a polished and detail-oriented legal professional who enjoys working on sophisticated commercial real estate transactions within a fast-paced and collaborative environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting lawyers through all stages of commercial real estate matters, while delivering exceptional client service and ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and organization throughout each file.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and draft a variety of commercial real estate documents, agreements, and correspondence
  • Conduct and review title searches, off-title searches, corporate searches, and other due diligence investigations
  • Analyze title and due diligence materials and identify potential issues or deficiencies for lawyer review
  • Prepare and manage closing documentation, including statements of adjustments, closing books, and registration of documents
  • Coordinate and attend closings, including through electronic registration systems
  • Liaise with clients, real estate brokers, financial institutions, government offices, and opposing counsel in a professional and timely manner
  • Maintain organized physical and electronic file systems
  • Monitor critical dates, deadlines, conditions, and follow-up requirements throughout all stages of transactions
  • Provide proactive legal and administrative support to lawyers and the broader legal team
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients, handling inquiries and correspondence with professionalism and confidentiality
  • Collaborate closely with lawyers, paralegals, and administrative staff to support transaction management and broader team initiatives
  • Handle sensitive client and firm information with discretion and professionalism
  • Demonstrate initiative in expanding legal knowledge, staying current on procedural and legislative changes, and contributing to the ongoing success of the team

Problem Solving & Judgment

  • Effectively manage competing priorities while exercising sound judgment in a fast-paced environment
  • Identify inconsistencies or gaps in documentation and escalate issues appropriately
  • Apply professionalism and discretion when handling confidential matters
  • Use practical problem-solving skills to navigate unexpected challenges and support efficient file management
  • Share knowledge and best practices to support collaboration and team success

Qualifications & Skills

  • 5–8 years of experience as a Paralegal, Law Clerk, or Legal Assistant, ideally within a large or national law firm or professional services environment
  • Diploma or certificate in Paralegal, Law Clerk, or Legal Assistant studies from a recognized institution
  • Strong understanding of commercial real estate terminology, Land Titles procedures, and Alberta registration systems, including SPIN2 and Alberta Registries Land Online
  • Exceptional organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency with legal software, document management systems, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines within a fast-paced environment
  • Professional demeanor, strong judgment, and a client-service focused approach
