Legal Assistant - Banking & Finance *NEW*
Urban Legal Recruitment is assisting our highly regarded client, a leading international business law and litigation firm, in the search for a dynamic and experienced Legal Assistant to support lawyers within their Banking & Finance practice in Calgary.
This is an excellent opportunity for an intermediate legal assistant with 2–5 years of experience, although intermediate to senior candidates are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will independently manage the day-to-day administrative and practice support activities for lawyers in a busy Banking & Finance practice. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic and be collaborative, professional, adaptable, and proactive in their approach to work.
Work Environment
Standard hours of work are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with occasional pre-authorized overtime required to meet client needs.
This position operates under a hybrid work model, with a mandatory requirement of three (3) days in the office and up to two (2) days remote, work permitting. In-office requirements may change based on business needs. The successful candidate must reside in or near Calgary, Alberta and be able to commute to the office as required.

Primary Responsibilities
- Manage administrative duties including email and calendar management, meeting coordination, and travel arrangements
- Support lawyers with transaction management, including monitoring timelines, coordinating document execution, and assisting with closing processes
- Maintain bring-forward systems and provide reminders as needed
- Prepare legal documents and correspondence under lawyer supervision, including drafting letters, revising documents, and preparing document comparisons
- Transcribe digital dictation
- Assist with monthly billing processes including time entry, draft billing preparation, and liaising with accounting
- Maintain organized electronic and physical filing systems
- Support new matter intake, including conflict checks and engagement letter preparation
- Arrange searches including corporate, PPSA, land title, and bankruptcy searches
- Register security documents under applicable legislation
- Coordinate with other administrative departments as required
- Provide backup support to other assistants when needed
- Provide occasional reception coverage and other administrative duties as assigned
Required Knowledge and Experience
- Completion of a Legal Assistant diploma or equivalent combination of education and professional experience
- 2–5 years of experience as a Legal Assistant, ideally within Banking & Finance, Corporate Commercial, or Commercial Real Estate
- Experience working within a large law firm environment is considered an asset
- Strong understanding of business and legal terminology
- Experience with BigHand is considered an asset
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Pro, digital dictation, and document management systems such as iManage
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
