Position Summary

The successful candidate will provide senior-level paralegal support to two lawyers in the preparation, development and management of personal injury litigation matters.

This individual will play an important role in moving files forward, identifying key issues, preparing legal documentation and maintaining strong relationships with clients and opposing counsel.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive paralegal support to two lawyers in the preparation, development and management of litigation files.
• Assist with scheduling and preparation for Questionings, Mediations, Judicial Dispute Resolutions and Trials.
• Conduct legal research and investigate relevant facts and issues.
• Draft, review and finalize legal documents, including pleadings, motions, affidavits, briefs, appeals and reports.
• Review files, identify key issues and provide recommendations regarding the appropriate next steps.
• Communicate professionally with clients, defence counsel and other parties regarding Questionings and other litigation matters.
• Maintain client relationships at the highest level.
• Provide an exceptional service experience to every client.
• Manage competing priorities and ensure deadlines are met.
• Support the continued development and efficiency of the paralegal function.

Qualifications and Skills

• A minimum of eight years of litigation paralegal experience in either plaintiff or defence work.
• Post-secondary paralegal education.
• Strong understanding of legal terminology.
• Excellent knowledge of the Alberta Rules of Court.
• Experience drafting pleadings, motions, affidavits, briefs and other litigation documents.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• A demonstrated commitment to providing exceptional client service.
• Strong time-management, problem-solving, planning and organizational skills.
• The ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• A collaborative and team-oriented approach.
• Previous experience managing or supervising a paralegal department is a significant asset.
