Associate Lawyer - Insurance Litigation (General Insurance & Professional Indemnity)

Our valued client has an opening for an Associate Lawyer with experience in general insurance and professional indemnity to join its Insurance Litigation Group.

This role involves all aspects of litigation, including mediations, arbitrations, trials, and appeals, working on a broad range of general litigation matters with a particular focus on commercial disputes. This role offers the opportunity to work in an entrepreneurial, collaborative, and collegial environment, while continuing to build and develop your legal career.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal analysis and advice in general litigation matters, working closely with senior lawyers and partners in those sectors.
  • Draft pleadings, motion materials, factums, pre-trial memoranda, and mediation memoranda
  • Conduct legal research and deliver clear, practical legal analysis
  • Prepare correspondence to opposing counsel and clients
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships
  • Review documents in preparation for litigation
  • Prepare for and attend examinations for discovery and mediations
  • Appear in court independently or alongside senior counsel to argue motions and attend pre-trials
  • Assist with or independently prepare for and attend trials or other adjudicative hearings
  • Attend B.C. or other Canadian Bar Association events for professional business development purposes
  • Perform practice management related tasks as required
  • Continuously developing legal, advocacy, and professional skills
  • Support other business needs or priorities as they arise

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Law degree from a recognized university / common law school
  • Qualified to practice law in the Province of British Columbia and a member in good standing with the B.C. Bar
  • 3–5 years of post-qualification experience
  • Relevant experience in private practice or in-house, with a focus on general insurance and professional indemnity
  • Coverage analysis experience under insurance policies is considered an asset
  • Strong legal writing, communication, and advocacy skills
  • Sound judgment and legal reasoning, analytical strength, and creative problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to develop strategies and clearly communicate advice to clients
  • High integrity and intellectual rigor
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and interest in business development and client relationships
