Senior eDiscovery Litigation Support Paralegal

If you are a Litigation Paralegal who specializes in eDiscovery, then this is the role for you! Our client is a large, very well respected Calgary based law firm that thrives on the belief that every member of their firm forms an integral part  in the delivery of service to clients. . This firm prides itself on collegiality and a team based environment. This role reports to the Litigation Support Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain current knowledge of available litigation support systems and software;
  • Understand eDiscovery Analytics concepts and how to implement those technologies;
  • Design, implement, update and maintain litigation databases and coordinate loading records;
  • Provide support to lawyers regarding document searching, retrieval and reporting;
  • Prepare and implement procedures and protocols for workflow, coding, trial books, appeal books, scanning and unitization, and affidavit of records;
  • Assist with training Litigation Support staff on best practices, software use and other tasks, including creation of training plans and supporting material;
  • Assist in evaluating and recommending service providers and products and ensure those projects meet expectations and stay on schedule;
  • Prepare documents for production including coding, consistency checks, reporting and production exports;
  • Supervise assignments using project management software and provide updates to lawyers;
  • Coordinate tasks and provide instructions on print jobs, scanning, coding and all aspects of document production;
  • Monitor job progress, making adjustments to ensure deadlines are met;
  • Identify delays where additional resources may be required and discuss these with Litigation Support Manager;
  • Stage, process/extract data, image and conduct QC of output using SQL backed e-discovery software;
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities;

Provide Paralegal support on all files, including:

  • Communication with lawyers and file management tasks;
  • Document review (relevance, privilege, redactions);
  • Use advanced eDiscovery Analytics on all files to increase efficiency and optimize processes;
  • Implement TAR, Clustering, Concept Searching and other technology on files as appropriate;
  • Issue coding and creating chronologies;
  • Creation of electronic trial books and preparation of appeal books and factums;
  • Tracking and preparing undertakings and exhibit tables, including in electronic format;
  • Transcript management, including issue coding of questioning transcripts and electronic linking of exhibits in the transcript, as well as assisting with transcript summaries;
  • Assisting with trial and witness preparation; and
  • Other duties as required.

Education & Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required;
  • CEDS Certification preferred;
  • Administrator level certification or experience with Ipro for Enterprise or Relativity preferred;
  • 5 years previous Litigation and eDiscovery experience required, including, specifically:
    • Experience with e-discovery processing and QC of datasets over 100 GB or 1 Million plus documents;
    • Experience implementing Technology Assisted Review and Continuous Active Learning Technologies;
    • Experience managing internal and external 1st and 2nd level review; and
    • Large scale legal project management
